It Happened While I Was on the Job

The U.S. Labor Department recently published the average incidence rate of nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses for 2009.  You may be surprised with a few that top the list.  As you would expect, some occupations have high rates such as police and sheriff’s patrol officers.  But government transit and intercity bus drivers?  Evidently all the force, shaking and moving of driving the bus may result in occupational injuries to the drivers.   And those workers who are subjected to awkward physical positions while at work have a higher rate also.  The rule of thumb – if you start feeling uncomfortable, take a break, stretch, and wiggle those fingers and toes.  For the complete list, go to
